12/5

From Vivian Ng:
How did you choose your show and tell hobby/object for your Telling Your
Story Presentation?

From Sarah Wong:
What did you learn from taking this class? Are you going to take other ICS classes to learn more about Asian Americans?

From Kumi Kirihara:
What did you learn from other people's presentations, telling your story? Did
you find any interests?

  1. I picked my topic because it was especially significant for a large chunk of my life. Then I saw a group of other people who shared a common interest and it was fun to have people to relate to.

  2. I learned from this class that I'm really lucky to have avoided hard times for asian people in america.

  4. Q#1: All i did was go to the course website and read about what we could bring. It just made sense to talk about a hobby because its easy to talk about.
Q#2: I've learned alot from taking this class. The history that I've learned, such as filipino history, was one of the things i had no idea about at all. I would take another ICS class, but im not sure which classes teach more about it.

  5. Well since dancing shapes who I am today, I like to talk about it and give a little demonstration about what I like to do. I feel like it represents who I am the most. So I decided to pick that subject for my show and tell.

  6. I'm a huge hiphop head, so it was clear to me from the beginning that I would talk about my love affair with the music. I decided to focus on underground hiphop, acts that I felt people would not be familiar with. On Monday, I'll first give a brief history of the musicians, followed by a couple clips of songs, and finish with what drew me to their sound. Hopefully, I'll be able to attract some new listeners.

  7. I chose my topic, baking, because it's a big part of my life and I like to share it with other people.

  8. I chose to talk about BJJ because I go to practice regularly and it is a big part of who I am. I like the technical nuances of it and how it fits in nicely in an MMA setting.

  9. How would you feel when you heard "Why can't your father speak English? This is America." from the clerk at the store and you had to translate it to your father.- Hyun-Yi Kang, P.184-

If I were Hyun-Yi Kang and I had that kind of experience, I would have felt embarrassed and discouraged to speak English; and translate to Korean whatever I heard from that clerk at the store, so I understood a little how Hyun-Yi Kang felt.

  10. Relating to question 1:
well i wanted to do a hobby/topic that i was comfortable with. I wanted to topic to be something i knew well and a topic that wasnt too deep. I wanted to talk about a topic that would liven the mood in our class and hopefully teach some students about a new topic they didnt know about. I was glad to find a few others who were happy with doing a presentation about beer pong.

  11. #1 I chose my hobby, photography, for the presentations because it is something I am kinda knowledgeably in and passionate about. It was something I found another person was into, so having a partner calmed my nerves a bit.
#2 Taking this class I have learned many things about the past, present and the goals of Asian American individuals. I don't plan to take any other ICS classes unless its needed to transfer.
#3 I found it interesting that I had a lot of things in common with others through their presentations. I found an interest in muscle cars, martial arts, and etc by listening to others talk about their interests.

  12. Vivian Ng- I chose to do beerpong as my presentation because it is a part of a hobby i play on occasions. My plan during presentation was to work with a group who is also interested on the subject. Basically we did a "show and tell" by explaining the object of the game and doing a little demo.

Sarah Wong - i learned a significance part of asian american history because not only is it my ethnicity, but the fact that they lack the importance of it in general history.

From Kumi - I did not exactly learn a lot from our telling our story presentations , instead i learned to understand what people love to do as a hobby or take interest in. I appreciated the fact that we all contributed in the presentations.

  13. I chose my topic by picking something that really interested me. My first car was a '69 Mustang and I spent the next four to five years fixing it up. I taught myself a lot of the techniques needed to do such a restoration.

  14. I learned that everyone has their own special talent that makes them unique. Each hobby or object can tell someone who a person is and how they are raised

  15. Q2: Even though I took this class, I did not take it as an ICS class, instead it was an ELIT class. The reason for this is because I was already taking another ICS class this quarter. After taking 2 Asian American classes, I don't plan to take anymore even though both were fun and a great experience.
